26 years of Dad-less Christmases

It’s the most wonderful time of the year.

So they say. But I never really got that kind of Christmas. That jolly, wishful, too-happy-I’m-lost-for-words kind feeling. Not because we never had chestnuts roasting on an open fire; or I never saw mommy kissing Santa Claus; or I never had a glimpse of Frosty the Snowman or got even a hint of snow…but because, well…how could this be the hap-happiest season of all/ most wonderful time of the year, when loved ones are near—when the one person I’ve always longed to be near to--is halfway around the globe and probably doesn’t even know that I exist.

Needless to say, Christmas has always been the exact opposite of that jolly song. Despite the fact that my momma tried so hard to make me happy. I knew she loved me, and I loved her too…but this deep longing for my father has always kept the joyous spirit of Christmas at a tantalizing distance.

Every year my mom would bring me shopping for a Christmas gift. And while other kids tugged at their father’s hand pointing at the toy they wanted, I’d tug my momma’s hand and point at those children’s fathers. I don’t think any of them ever really knew how lucky they already were. Each year, that was the gift I asked for. For 26 years, I never got it. But still, I continue to hope. That one day, he’ll hear my songs; look into my eyes; recognize my pink fur; and say, “Gorgoro, my son!”

Christmas may not be the happiest, most wonderful, ever-so-joyous time of the year for me. Still, it’s the most hopeful. It may not mean the same way for me as it does for you, but whatever this season may mean for you, I wish you’d feel it so wonderfully well this time around…And I hope you’ll get what you wish for, this year.

WOHOOOO!!! BLUR IS BACK!!!!

GOOD NEWS FOR FANS LIKE ME!!! I HOPE TO SEE YOU GUYS!! I'M SUCH A BIG BIG FAN!!! YOU'RE MY NO.1 MUSICAL INFLUENCE!!!

From http://www.nme.com/news/blur/41552

When Blur announced plans to make their 2009 comeback yesterday (December 9) they gave just one interview - to NME.

Speaking jointly for the first time in almost a decade, frontman Damon Albarn and guitarist Graham Coxon invited NME along to discuss
Blur's gig next summer on July 3 in London's Hyde Park, their original split, their reconciliation and their future plans.

You can read the interview in full in this week's issue of NME which is on newsstands across the UK now (December 10).

In the meantime, here is a free extract from NME's cover story interview with Blur:

NME: Have you rehearsed yet?
Damon Albarn: "Nope, we haven't rehearsed at all. We've [pointing at Graham] played together a bit, but not all of us yet."
Graham Coxon: "It's odd, I suppose, but it's quite a nice feeling that that is around the corner."

NME: How did your jam together go?
[both look at each other and giggle]
Damon: "Er, it went ok [laughs], it has its moments! We were just mucking around, we just went through many different thoughts playing together."
Graham: "It wasn't exactly pop music, it was sort of meditation music."

NME: When do all four of Blur get together?
Damon: "We better do it pretty soon!"
Graham: "That's going to be funny, that's just going to make me laugh. It will be funny to see our four faces again in such close proximity in such a positive way because the last time there were four of us together it was really weird."
Damon: "Plus we don't even know what we're going to sound like yet!" [laughs]
Graham: "It should sound better, I can play the guitar better [laughs] but that might be a bad thing! When we started I could hardly play the fucking guitar."
Damon: "Well I certainly couldn't sing. We couldn't do anything hardly when we started."
Graham: "We know we can do our jobs now, but don't want to [be] automatons. In order to give anyone else something out of what we do we have to get something out of it too, you know we have to be nourished. As long as we feel that is going to happen, yeah!"

Me @ KOMIKON 08

Last saturday was a success! I didn't expect to meet so many new friends at Komikon. I was very pleased to find out that there are many people who new me and my cause. There, I gave out my very own graphic novel, "The True to Life Story of Gorgoro Henson". I was planning on making only 50 copies because I wasn't sure if people would be interested in my story. But in my surprise, a lot of people came to my friend Manix' booth. So good thing I made a hundred copies and I was all out at the end of the day. Special thanks to Mr.Nino Gupana (the wordsmith in my comicbook ) and to Erl for the camera works. -GORGORO

I really really love BLUR!!

nAll musicians have their own musical influences, in my case, its BLUR! This for guys from Essex London ( I think ) really inspires me to make music.

So last Nov.13,2008’s gig at Saguijo bar is really a dream come true.

The concept of the Whole gig is to cover 4 songs of your favorite international band. Alamid covers the Cure, Chillities covers Jamiroquai, The Johnnys did Oasis,Yosha as Jill Scott, the Purplechickens played Radiohead and us syempre BLUR.

My Open letter to Mr. Obama

This is an open letter to Mr. Barack Obama, the next president of the United States of America.

First of all, Mr. Obama, congratulations on your win. You winning is truly a milestone in the history, not only of America, but of the whole world.

I’ve seen your speech in CNN when you won the presidency of the united states. It was really inspiring even for a Fil-American citizen such as myself. There is one part in your speech that really got to me. You said that you would listen to anyone’s voice, may it be from the most powerful person or the smallest. So Mr. Obama, I would like you to hear me and my story.

I'm a struggling musician.I think I got my passion for music from my Dad, he is a famous international (American) drummer. Way back 1982, when he first visited the Philippines as part of their band's World tour and after this Big Night at Olongapo, he had a one night shot of joy with my Nanay. He went back to the States and my Nanay was left with no idea that this drummer got her pregnant. After 25 years here I am..singing songs..making music...and waiting for my Dad's recognition. My father's name is Animal.

As the new ruler of the free world, I know that you have the heart and the power to do whatever you have to do to help someone in need. You are the change the world has been waiting and longing for. Now’s a chance for you to prove your greatness.

Pls.help me see my dad.:-(

Revolver Anniv @ Saguijo
had fun last night. or uhm, a few hours ago?

it's my Off so Off i went, to Saguijo! yay! it rained cats and dogs but I was already in Makati by then. I stayed in McDo for an hour waiting for the rain to stop, but it didn't so... what the fuck, right? i stormed into the rain and got myself into a decent taxi cab who miraculously did not overcharge me on a two-block ride.

Anyhoo, the line up at Saguijo was great:

- Gorgoro (funny rockin' set)
- Nyctinasty ( boo Paramore! haha)
- Itchyworms
- Pedicab
- Imago
- Sandwich
- Chicosci
- Fastpitch

I was happy for three things:

1) it's my off. yey!
2) i got a new lens! prime lens, baby! i get to test it out
3) i met up with Doc Nikki

when I entered Saguijo, Gorgoro was playing, Jeng was on bass and what-the-fuck their vocalist is a puppet! they are probably the coolest band i've known so far. Hydraulics down! Hydraulics down! It was so cool. It was so funny. The music was tight! I have to watch them again soon!!!

at the time Nyctinasty played, i guess i was already outside waiting for Nikki. She came just in time for Itchyworms. And I should really go buy their 3rd album: Self-titled! Jaz I think made up a song that was so funny. Then Pedicab played, there were tons of heads and dicks in the room. It was full! It was hot! but like as Diego sings it: Dito Tayo Sa Dilim/Kapit Sa Patalim/Punyeta Ang Init Dito/ Nakakapaso! Papaparararaparapapa (something like that) haha! They didn't play my all-time-favorite song but they played FX so i guess i'm Okay with that.

Imago followed suit, but our view were blocked by giant men so we couldn't see even a shadow of Aia. They played tracks from Take 2, it was a treat.

Sandwich was as usual, full-throttle! Diego was musing about Beda winning at NCAA. and was makign fun of LaSalle and Mong happened to be in Green shirt.. he he he.. Nikki thought Diego was drunk, I told her, I don't think so. I think he wakes up everyday talking just like that! he he he i don't really know him personally, so I wouldn't know. I only laugh at his jokes at shows. it never fails to perk me up. and oh, Raimund was licking Myrene all over! he he he sweeeeeeeet.

after Sandwich, I think we head to the Food & Beverage Section? I knew it'd be a riot with ChicoSci so i'd rather eat my heart out. haha. nah.. i just caught up with with Nikki. It's been a while since we last went to a gig together .. I think that was NU107 rock awards last year. We never fail to attend that event. =D (unless stupid things happens like loosing all your money while on your way to World Trade? haha i couldn't forget that)

When i got home, the street where I live was flooded. the taxi was too scared to dip his precious taxi into the brown flood so i took off my shoes, rolled up my jeans and walked in the flood! gross, yeah, but if i'm a little tipsy, nothing is gross! he he he he

(here are the shots i took with Nikon D40 + 50mm f/1.8 - god i'm so happy with this lens!!! gotta shoot again!)

I saw my Dad @ the Emmys!

So far, my career has been good. I’ve had a lot of successful gigs here and there, I’ve gained a lot of friends through multiply, friendster, myspace and even became a Rockeoke idol finalist. But I can’t help but still feel this void in me. Don’t get me wrong, everything is great. But you see, all this time I’ve been doing these things hoping that my father will find me. But still, it hasn’t happened.

Last week, a friend of mine told me he saw my dad in the Emmy’s.. I was excited to hear the news and hurriedly went online to search for the video of my dad. Finally, I found it! It was kind of a bittersweet experience for me to watch him perform. I’m sad because I miss him a lot and because of the thought that there are thousands of miles between us, but I was happy to see that he still got it. He was able to perform with the great Josh Groban. I was proud of him.

I haven’t lost hope. I know we will eventually find each other. Maybe not now, but someday..

Tonight, Rockeoke. Tomorrow, the WORLD!

When I heard about the one-year anniversary of the SPLENDID Rockeoke Idol, I ran all the way to Mag:net High Street last Monday.

I was hoping to see my dad because I heard there were going to be some celebrities… they just had these guys called Derek Ramsey and Illac Diaz. (Hmmm okay lang… but they’re not pink like me. Ladies love the pink. Sorry boys! Hahaha.)

I was more excited to see so many splendid people! The hosts, of course – Quark Henares (I hope he directs an MTV for me someday), Gabe Mercado, and JC “Burara” Medina; plus the bands, Oven Toaster and the Johnnies (na yung lead singer kamukha ni Pepe Smith)

Those fabulous floozies first got everyone drunk (the better to hear you with, the better to rock out, my dear) and then picked 15 contestants.

Quark gave me an A for “Champagne Supernova” (“I love your monobrow, it’s so Gallagher”), and they picked me as one of the 5 finalists!!! Even if it was Monday I decided to sing “Friday I’m In Love,” because I knew everyone would get up and dance.

Also I wanted to be able to tell my dad, “Been there, done that, won that!”
Except 2 humans beat me. Hindi naman discrimination. Wala lang akong tie at ‘di ako taga-Arneow (hehehe peace).
Pero okay lang! Asteeeeg pa rin.
Because the hosts picked me to sing with them at the end.
Wooooohoooo!
Sana may magkwento kay Dad na naka-perform na rin ako sa High Street! On the way to the big time na ako!

Everyone drank till we all sounded SPLENDID.
Happy birthday Rockeoke!

GORGORO: Bono of the Muppet World?

I attended the Deeper Luxury Talk by this guy from UK Dr. Jem Bendell. His report evaluated the environmental and social record of some of the worlds top brands including LOréal, Hermès, Tods, Tiffany & Co and Swatch, and the like. The provocative report challenges luxury brands. SPLENDID! Isn't it? Truly, I support WWFs advocacy on the importance of sustainable consumption. Recording session

Last saturday, me and my bandmates decided to hit the the studio to record "Basura" (our fifth recorded song so far.) Jeng has a fractured middle finger but she still insisted to record the bass tracks. We also started recording "Cannonball" drum tracks and bass tracks. Hoping to release the album late 2008 or early 2009.

GORGORO visits HOOTERS!

yehey!!!

GORGORO attended the 2nd Internet and Mobile Marketing summit (day 1)

It's the first day of the 2nd Internet and Mobile Marketing Summit here at the Grand Ballroom of the Hotel Intercontinental (Intercon). When I heard that IMMAP (Internet and Mobile Marketing Association of the Philippines) will be holding a summit, I immediately rushed and registered.

I felt the need to attend this summit because I know that the Internet is very very vital and will probably be the best way to reach my dad.

So far, I've learn a lot from the speakers (David Kho,VP of Yahoo!SEA, David L. Jones,VP for Global Marketing,Friendster. Simon Bond,Regional Director of Proximity Worldwide and many more). I discovered possibilities that will Probably lead me to my dad. Fingers crossed....

Gorgoro's Breadtalk commercial

Hold your horses. I am not the star of the new Breadtalk commercial.

Breadtalk has given me a great oppurtunity to compose all the music in their newest viral/ TV ad,starring Flosss.

I did the Sound effects, background music, did the OBB and CBB and sang them as well. Basically, all the sound you would hear in this ad was done by me (for the exception of the Narration which btw was done by a good friend of mine,Cey Enriquez)

I'm very greatful of Breadtalk for entrusting me this "sound directorial" job.

Hopefully this will open a lot of doors for me. Maybe someday,Coke,Enervon or a morning show would get me to do their jingles.

I'm certain, that if my father would see and hear this ad,he would be proud of my musicianship and realize that I, his son, inherited his musical abilities,

Special thanks to Mr. Giron, Mr.Vicuna, Ms.Acena, Mr.Roberto and Mr.Winward Chu.
I would also want to thank my guitarist, Billy Gary Reyes for being my Sound Engr. in this project.

Splendid!!!
