GORGORO's FHM appearance

FHM PHILIPPINES (July 2010 issue)

GORGORO

"Gorgoro is fronted by puppet Gorgoro "Gregorio" Henson, who claims to
be the bastard son of the famous Muppet animal. Together with human
friends from other bands, he has managed to approximate the sound of
90's brit-rock, combined with a lyrical style that is more Ely Buendia
than Sesame Street"

Gorgoro

It’s not often that you see a band and you say “$#%@, why didn’t I think of that?” You’re liable to repeat this colorful phrase when you see Gorgoro, a rock band that has a pink, furry puppet for a singer.

Now forget all you know about rock stars that have hands up their rear parts. Gorgoro is nothing like Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem (the house band from the Muppets Show). The band plays propulsive brit-rock that would make you search for an accent, and maybe also a demo. It’s no surprise considering that Gorgoro counts British bands such as Pulp, Blur, Kaiser Chiefs and Radiohead among its touchstones.

Gorgoro has a mission, though he is less Bono-ish with his aspirations. He wishes to connect with his long-lost father, Animal from the Muppets Show. Gorgoro claims that he was conceived via a one-night hook-up during a Muppet Show tour stop in Olongapo.

Instead of saving up to go to the US or sending a letter to the Jim Henson Company, Gorgoro decided to connect with his father by trying to become a rock star. He has impressive band mates to help him. Musicians from groups such as Kiko Machine, Matilda and The Pin-Up Girls have all lent their support.

In spite of it all, Gorgoro says that his band is not trying to be different. “It’s just that I’m a puppet and we have to deal with it,” he said.
